Chapter 46 Summery

Chapter 46 in Rules for Writers talks about how to analyze, annotate and summarize different kinds of texts. Some of these texts include essays, articles, books, advertisements, and photographs. Two strategies mentioned for annotate text is to underline using a pencil, circle main points and to write in the margins. Using a pencil allows you to erase and change your ideas and thoughts. The second tip for annotate text is to create an outline that highlights the key points of the text. One other thing mentioned that wasn't listed in the tips is to reread the text to catch things that you didn't the first time you looked at it.

For writing a summery it says that a summery is meant to show your understanding of the text and point out the main ideas. Also mentioned is that when writing a summery a neutral tone should be used, it should be written in third person and in the beginning of the summery the title of the text should be mentioned.

After reading this chapter I have found a lot of useful tips, such as using a pencil and rereading what I just read. Also the tips for writing a summery in a neutral tone and in third person is something I'll need to keep in mind. I'll try to use as much of these strategies as I can, however it is often hard for me to do while reading a story.
