Indroduction

Kiska

Hello everyone, my name is Sara Nogueiro. I'm 19 years old and recently graduated from an Independent Study High School. This is my second semester attending Santa Rosa JC and so far I love it here. I'm currently majoring in Avian Science and planning on transferring to UC Davis and graduate with a BS in Avian Science. After I get my degree I plan on going to Davis's Veterinary School of medicine to become a qualified Avian Veterinarian. I have a long journey ahead of me, but I have my parrot, a green cheek conure named Kiska, to keep me focused on my goal.

I decided to take this class online because of my past experience at my independent study school and because I am a very quiet person. Due to my quiet nature I am always silent in class and don't do will with group discussions, but here I can participate freely in them through typing. I love to type stories with friends, usually in the form of an RP. I tend not to double check my writing, until after I click the submit button though, I hope to work on this, this semester. In the beginning I am good at doing things on time, however after a while I tend to become a procrastinator, which ends up motivating me to gets things done.

  1. Hi Sara!
That's great that you know what you want to do. When I was your age(I make my self sound like I'm an old lady), I was unsure. I'm only twenty-four, however, I'm just now sure of what I want to do. Nursing. I am also a quiet person. I think more than I talk and I especially don't like to speak in public. I envy those that are great communicators and that are social butterflies. I think being a procrastinator is a part of life. I try and get things done ahead of time but it doesn't always work out that way. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you this semester! Take care!

Thank you for the comment. We both love animals. I love your career choice it is so diffrent but interesting. I too volenteer for two local animal rescue organizations. I wish you luck throughout your educational goal. It sounds like you know what you want and your going for it, Thats so great! I dont have any experience with birds but yours is very cute. One of my favorite movies was "paulie" a story talking bird. Thats what kiska reminds me of. good luck along your journey.

  3. Sara,
I think we have a lot in common. I am also a very quiet person when it comes to face-to-face interactions. I feel like with the online classrooms I can interact and open up to my classmates more freely. I have a tendency to freeze up when I have to go in front of the class. I try to avoid it for as long as I can. I tend to not work well in groups also. In the traditional classroom I prefer to work alone. I am extremely shy and HATE having to be in front of people that I really don't know. I tend to get very nervous and filled with anxiety. Maybe some day I will learn to get over my shyness and social anxiety.

  4. You and I are very alike. The reason why Im doing all online classes is because I get really anxious in classrooms and I dislike talking in front of the class.
I also get really distracted in classrooms and hours go by of me doodling and I realize and I havent heard a word that the teacher has said.
It was nice to meet you? ha...

  5. Hi Sara,

I've heard great things about the Veterinary School of Medicine at Davis. It's great you know exactly what you want to do. It seems like you've found your calling and will be studying something you love and have a passion for.

Was your independent study high school online?

Typing in Word and then cutting and pasting your work online might encourage you to proof your work.

I'm looking forward to working with you this semester.

    Take care,
    Lauren
