Chapter 3 in Rules for Writers by Diana Hacker is about revizing your essay. The main point that is mentioned in this chapter is to make global revisions. Global revisions are revision that focus on the whole picture. When making global revisions, whole pharagraphs or sentences may be added or removed from the essay. This is the step where the majority of editing happens and is best to do after putting down your essay for some time, such as overnight or longer, that way you can get a fresher look at your essay.
The next step is to look at the neaty grity, just has spelling and grammer. It's good to this kind of revizing after the global revizing because if you do it before you may end up correcting sentenses that you are just going to omit. Doing this will save you more time.
When revizing I'll try to look at the whole picture while I edit, before looking at spelling and grammer. I already tend to put down my essay for at least a day or two before looking at it again to revize it, which I find helps a lot. It allows me to see error that I wouldn't have seen otherwise.
